Primary Function:
The Academic Success Director is a key leadership role within the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County. This individual will lead the development and execution of educational programs that have a significant impact on youth development and community well-being.
Key responsibilities include:
- External Partnerships: Build and maintain relationships with the Manatee County School District and corporate partners to ensure alignment of the organization’s programs with community and educational needs.
- Program Oversight: Lead educational programs at all Boys & Girls Club locations, including School Club Sites.
- Innovation & Strategy: Develop and implement strategies that drive youth development and community impact. Make recommendations for organizational improvements.
- Relationship Building: Represent the organization’s interests internally and externally, collaborating across departments to advance the Boys & Girls Clubs’ mission.
- Program Design & Leadership: Design and lead impactful educational programs, leveraging research to continually improve program outcomes.
- Organizational Learning & Impact: Analyze educational research and implement insights to improve the organization’s effectiveness and program delivery.

Leadership Responsibilities:
Program Administration & Oversight:
- Oversee all programs at school club sites, ensuring alignment with the Youth Development Strategy.
- Set measurable objectives that align with organizational goals.
- Ensure daily operations meet quality standards and objectives.
- Ensure all grant deliverables are met and monitor staff adherence to goals.
- Encourage active participation from members and provide feedback to support skill development.
- Attract, retain, and support high-quality staff.
- Ensure member safety and well-being.
Program & Site Standards:
- Establish and uphold program goals focused on safety and member well-being.
- Ensure program areas are safe, organized, and well-maintained.
- Ensure equipment is in good working order, maintaining a safe environment for staff and members.
Staffing & Program Quality:
- Ensure adequate staffing and meet youth-to-staff ratio requirements.
- Deliver a diverse range of high-quality programs that address members’ educational and developmental needs.
Staff & Volunteer Safety:
- Ensure all staff and volunteers undergo required background checks and screenings.
Academic Success Responsibilities:
Knowledge of Florida State Standards:
- Ensure all educational programs align with Florida State Standards for K-12 grades, applying best practices for student achievement.
Alignment with Manatee County School District Curriculum:
- Align programs with the district’s curriculum, ensuring a seamless transition between school and club activities.
Setting High Educational Expectations:
- Develop and implement academic goals that challenge students and focus on improving literacy skills.
Cognitive Assessments & Individualized Programs:
- Administer assessments to evaluate students’ learning needs and develop individualized programs to support their academic progress.
Data Analysis & Monitoring:
- Analyze program data (e.g., cognitive assessments, FSA scores) to evaluate effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
Training & Support for Staff and Volunteers:
- Provide training and support to staff and volunteers to ensure effective educational program delivery.
Parent Engagement:
- Build strong relationships with parents and provide regular updates on their child’s academic progress.
Collaboration with Educators & Educational Organizations:
- Collaborate with teachers and educational organizations to improve program delivery and align strategies with school initiatives.
Budget Management:
- Work with the Chief Operating Officer to manage budgets for school sites and educational programs, ensuring efficient resource allocation.
Performance Goals & Organizational Impact:
- Focus on measurable outcomes such as:
- Improving reading proficiency, especially for elementary students and 3rd graders.
- Enhancing grade advancement and GPA among Club members.
- Reducing summer learning loss through engaging programming.

Position Requirements (not all-inclusive):
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
- Minimum five years of relevant experience in education or a similar role.
- Passion for improving the lives of at-risk youth.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate large-scale operations and initiatives.
- CPR and First Aid certification (preferred).
- Valid State Driver’s License.
- Ability to manage behavior challenges effectively.
- Experience in planning and implementing educational programs.
Position Qualifications:
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit, using hands and fingers to operate office equipment.
- Ability to lift or move up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to perform administrative tasks, including sitting for extended periods.
- Work in an indoor/outdoor club setting with a high noise level.
- Occasional standing required for conducting training or programs.
